Preparing for Sunday
Locked behind doors, anxious and afraid, Jesus’ disciples weren’t expecting good news—let alone a visit from Jesus himself.
And yet, Jesus comes. Not with judgment or blame, but with peace. Jesus comes to fearful hearts and says, “Peace.” He comes to doubting Thomas and says, “Touch and see.” He comes not just to them, but to us.
Every year, this story is appointed for the Sunday after Easter. It's called “Low Sunday” because the crowds are smaller and the grandeur of Easter morning has passed. Families likely aren't gathering outside for photos after worship today. But maybe that’s exactly why this text matters. This gospel meets us in the realness of life—the places where faith is hard, where we’re still waiting for signs of resurrection.
I love that. When you're going about your ordinary week—with no big dinners planned, no holiday on the horizon—know that the Risen Christ is still here. Still showing up. Still breaking through our locked doors. Still drawing us closer.
Folks, the message remains true: Christ is risen. Death has been defeated. Thanks be to God.
